Odor Removal

Detect and Eliminate Odors From Various Sources

Various odors are common with death, regardless of the circumstances.  These odors may be caused by fecal matter, urine, blood and other bodily fluids associated with the process of decomposition.  Odor removal can be a daunting task for even the most experienced in the field.  Other common odors may result from dead rodents, animal urine or fecal matter, smoke, mildew and many other sources.  These odors are equally troublesome and linger in the same fashion as odor from a human body.

Although odors may seem airborne, they actually permeate nearly every item and furnishing in the house.  These same odors become trapped in carpets, under flooring, within walls and attics.  Without proper training and equipment, complete odor removal cannot be achieved.  For example, odor removal from the scene of a decomposition often requires our technicians to first remove all items under or about the decomposed body.  This will often include floor coverings and sub floor.  Depending on the extent of the decomposition, lower portions of drywall may also have to be removed.  Once all affected items have been removed, technicians will coat all remaining areas with a stain and odor blocker (barrier) and use an odor neutralizer when applicable.  In extreme odor removal cases, an ozone generator may be required.  This will be left in the contaminated area for up to 24 hours.  A house or place of business may not be occupied while an ozone generator is in use.

Technicians with Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. have been property trained in odor removal and use state of the art equipment to eliminate odors caused by death, decomposition, rodents, house pets and smoke.  All of the chemicals used by our technicians in the odor removal process are OSHA compliant and family friendly.

Please, before you attempt to clean a crime or trauma scene with associated odors, speak with a trained & certified technician.  We have personnel standing by 24 hours a day to answer your questions.

Bio-Trauma 911, Inc. works with several different insurance companies, therefore we are often able to bill your insurance company directly.  Often, the only payment required from you will be your policy deductible.  If insurance coverage is not available, we do offer several different payment plans, which generally suit most budgets.

What is an odor?
The following information is provided by www.fastndry.com

"There are two types of odors:

(1) The real odor, which is the pure sensation of smell and,

(2) Psychological odors or heightened awareness odors that people think they smell based on previous experience, suggestions and past impressions.

Odors are transmitted by:

  • Humidity

  • Temperature

  • Evaporation

  • Penetration of odors into surfaces and fabrics

The processes of odor control are:

  • Masking, which is disguising an odor with a more pleasant odor
  • Pairing, using a chemical which transforms the odor's chemistry into a new non-odorous compound
  • Modifications, which is when a chemical is used to change the structure of an odor to eliminate its ability to produce the odor
  • Ozone, which is an electrically powered device utilized to produce an oxidizing odor control gas on location

Basic principals of odor control are:

  • Eliminate the source
  • Clean the contaminated area
  • Use fog or gas
  • It may be necessary to seal the source that was exposed to the contamination"
